Successful Open Day highlights 20 years of the BBL Pipeline

1 October 2026

The installation in Anna Paulowna, which has served as an important link in the energy connection between the Netherlands and Great Britain for the past twenty years, opened its doors to the public last Saturday.

Visitors had a unique opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at a site that is normally not accessible to the public. It is here that the 235-kilometre gas pipeline beneath the North Sea connects the two countries.

The installation in Anna Paulowna is the Dutch landing point of the BBL pipeline (Balgzand-Bacton Line).Through this connection, natural gas is transported safely and reliably between the Netherlands and Great Britain. The pipeline therefore makes an important contribution to energy supply and security of supply in the Netherlands, Great Britain and Europe.

Thanks to beautiful weather, almost 400 visitors, and the dedication of approximately 50 colleagues, the event was a great success.
Colleagues passionately explained their work and the technology behind various parts of the installation during a guided tour.

For further impressions of this event, please view the after movie, photos, and online magazine (in Dutch) here.
